An 1880s Victorian with five listening rooms.
There is no shop floor and no sales floor. The showroom is Dave Lalin's own house in Jersey City Heights, with systems set up in real rooms the way you would live with them. Visits are private, unhurried and arranged around you.

The man
A gear hound since the age of three.
Dave grew up with an engineer father and a reel-to-reel, found high-end audio at Audio Connection in Verona and spent sixteen years at two of Manhattan's great hi-fi shops before going out on his own. He leans toward realism over flattery, keeps hours that suit his customers rather than himself, and still loves having people over.

- 1989Starts selling hi-fi at Sound By Singer on 33rd Street, New York.
- 1996Joins Innovative Audio under Elliot Fishkin, then returns to Singer.
- 2005Goes out on his own as The Audio Doctor, from the family’s Victorian in Jersey City Heights. The plan was house calls; customers preferred to come to the house.
- 2011Stereophile visits: “The Audio Doctor: Prescribing the Best of Everything.”
- 2013Shows Waterfall Audio glass loudspeakers at the New York Audio Show.
